Welcome to Sacramento Pain Clinic
At Sacramento Pain Clinic, we focus on the Medical Management of chronic pain.
We emphasize realistic outcomes of treatment. Although we practice state-of the-art medicine, we recognize the limitations of modern medicine. We believe that an honest relationship between the patient and the physician can result in long term control over the pain and suffering.
Realistic expectations of our treatment require that our patients understand and accept that chronic pain is a medical condition no different than diabetes, hypertension, angina, epilepsy or any other disease that may afflict people. These unfortunate conditions are a part of life. Realistic expectations also mean that people understand that physicians do not cure chronic conditions, but we do our best to limit the suffering these conditions cause.
The recipe for success is to find the right combination of medical management along with an ongoing healing conversation between the patient and caregiver. Medications are appropriate when they produce a desired result such as improved function, are safe, and are free of side effects.
Medication Management
Medications are a mainstay of treatment for all patients and are usually very useful at modifying the effects of a disease. Medication management is aimed at providing the best relief of suffering with the least amount of side effects. The right combination of medications may help control the pain. This is often a "trial and error" process and is individualized to each person. We do our best to make sure that the medicines that our patients are taking are making a significant difference in their lives.
Detoxification Services
Some patients may wish to discontinue use of opiates (narcotics) due to ineffectiveness or side effects. We can assist in this by slowly tapering the medication, or by use of Suboxone (Buprenorphine). Dr. Levin is certified in the use of Suboxone to prevent withdrawal symptoms or treat addictions. Suboxone has been extremely successful in helping many of our patients recover from chronic narcotic use without having to go through withdrawal or inpatient treatment. More information may be found on the web site at naabt.org.
In addition, Sacramento Pain Clinic is proud to be affiliated with Michael S. Parr, M.D. board certified in addiction medicine. More information about Dr. Parr can be found at: http://www.michaelparrmd.com
